Hard work by York Regional Police investigators has resulted in the seizure of more than $1.2 million in gold and silver, a loaded handgun and a stolen vehicle, and the arrest of four youths involved in the robbery of a precious metals store in York City. Caught Toronto.
On December 10, 2022 at 2:15 pm, three masked suspects entered a precious metals store on Bloor Street and carried out a robbery at gunpoint. The suspect was given a certain amount of gold and silver and then went to a nearby car where a fourth suspect was waiting. Members of York Regional Police Commando were in the area as part of an ongoing investigation into the same suspect. Police managed to take control of the vehicle, which was determined to be stolen, and apprehended all four suspects after a brief chase. Officials seized a loaded pistol and $1,295,000 in gold and silver.
As a result of the dedicated efforts of the investigators, the precious metals dealer in this case had their gold and silver returned. A video of the recovered property is available on YouTube.
Investigators believe the suspects are part of a crime group that has been involved in a series of armed robberies at pharmacies, currency-conversion businesses and precious metal stores since November 2022. One 17-year-old is also charged in seven unrelated commercial robberies which took place in York, Toronto, Peel and Hamilton, while one 15-year-old is also charged in two of those incidents.
In total, 40 charges have been laid in this case so far.
No one was injured in this incident.
