With the negative stigma following the diamond industry, ALROSA is joining fellow diamond miners that are working to change it. They have signed up to join the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), therefore auditing its operations throughout the years to earn RJC certification.
“We believe it is important to demonstrate to the consumer that diamond mining is a socially responsible business that creates jobs, supports local communities and cares about the environment. ALROSA has always adhered to high standards of corporate social responsibility and is ready to prove it in the audit process” says Andrey Polyakov, ALROSA’s vice president.
Other companies already members of the council are De Beers, Dominion Diamond Coporation, Rio Tinto and Lucara Diamond Corp as well as more than 800 companies from across the diamond industry.
