Birks is set to host its annual diamond tribute, dedicated to 10 Canadian women in the film industry. The tribute, honouring female directors and actors, will take place on September 10 at the Birks store on Bloor Street West, Toronto. The event will be in collaboration with Telefilm Canada.

Directors Jennifer Baichwal, Ric Esther Bienstock, Marie-Hélène Cousineau, Madeline Piujuq Ivalu, and Nancy Florence Savard will be recognized for their high-impacting work, as well as actors Anne Dorval, Tatiana Maslany, Sophie Nélisse, Molly Parker and Cobie Smulders. They were chosen based on the success and recognition they have received within and beyond the industry, representing Canada.

“At a time when the eyes of the world are on the Toronto International Film Festival, we want to highlight the enormous contribution made by these women to the dynamism of Canadian cinema,” Carolle Brabant, executive director of Telefilm, told Rapaport. “Their careers have been marked by awards and honours, and their talent contributes to Canada’s cultural success at home and abroad. We thank Birks for this innovative public-private partnership to promote Canadian talent.” CJ
