Quote from Brian Carney Land Regarding the CJA 100th Anniversary Gala

“We wanted to throw a party befitting a centenary celebration and according to the many unsolicited complimentary remarks that we received, I think we succeeded. As the evening unfolded I believe the members and guests quickly began to understand the meticulous planning and the special touches that we had orchestrated to make the night memorable. Serenaded by the Festival String Quartet, the attendees entered the cocktail reception in the Art Gallery of Ontario’s (AGO) Walker Court, a magnificent space designed by world famous architect, Frank Gehry. Treated to their favorite libation from the premium bar and tempted by an array of h’ordeuvres specially chosen by the chef, the soirée served as the perfect opportunity to mingle and renew old acquaintances or forge new friendships. Following the reception, an elegant dinner awaited in the AGO’s Baillie Court with its spectacular view of the illuminated CN Tower. The four-course meal was an epicurean’s delight, designed around a beef tenderloin and grilled shrimp entrée and wonderfully paired with New Zealand and California wines. The emcee for the evening was Alicia Markson, formerly of CTV News, and the program included a retrospective of the first 100 years of the CJA by past president, Pierre Akkelian, a performance by Robert Pilon featuring signature tunes from his performances in The Phantom of the Opera, and Les Miserables, and remarks by Toronto Mayor John Tory. The function continued into the wee hours with a centenary dance party back in Walker Court. A fantastic venue, delectable food and drink and the best people in the business in attendance; it was a great tribute to our first 100 years!”
