Hudson’s Bay reports increasing sales while other Canadian retailers suffer

Canadian clothing retailers like Mexx, Jacob, and Smart Set are all set to eventually close their doors while department stores, Sears Canada being one of them, are also headed down a dim path.
But just last week, Hudson’s Bay reported a 2.7 per cent sales increase across established stores. A large part of the sales boost is coming from men’s apparel, which also contributed to growing sales at Saks Fifth Avenue in the U.S.
In addition to this, Hudson’s Bay reported that online sales jumped 73 per cent to reach $228 million. As a result of this, Hudson’s Bay has been putting a lot of its focus into its digital sector. The plan is to grow the online platform to make up a fifth of total purchases for the company by 2018. CJ
