De Beers Canada and Mountain Province Diamonds have announced the approval of the Type A water license for the Gancho Kué diamond project in Canada. The approval came from the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) of the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT). The Gahcho Kué diamond project is seen as an investment that will offer more jobs and business opportunities for the economy of the Northwest Territories, De Beers Canada CEO Tony Guthrie told Newswire. The mine will employ approximately 700 people for the first two years of the construction, after which it will employ 400 for the operational part.
“On behalf of our board and the shareholders of Mountain Province I extend our appreciation and thanks to the Operator of the Gahcho Kué Mine, De Beers Canada, for successfully guiding the project through the regulatory process,” said Mountain Province Diamonds CEO Patrick Evans. “Our thanks also goes to all the parties involved in the permitting of Gahcho Kué for their support for this important mine development which will contribute to maintaining Canada’s position as a leading diamond producer.” CJ
