National Assoc. of Jewelry Appraisers (NAJA) has addressed issues about the reliance on gemological laboratory reports at the 42nd ACE It Mid-Year Education Conference in Rosemont, IL. The conference, which took place on September 23, featured David Atlas, associate director, chair of ethical issues and certified senior member, talking about a number of topics regarding to the issue.
Atlas presented a code of conduct for NAJA appraisers, called “How to deal with diamonds accompanied by any variety of lab grading documents.” The topic has become even more relevant following recent incident concerning Rapaport. Another topic discussed was “What do you say to a client who has a problem with a recent purchase of a branded product?” which taught participants about how to determine a retail price for branded product.
