Christie’s New York Luxury Week Achieves $49.2M with Stellar Jewellery Sales

Christie’s Magnificent Jewels Auction: $49.2M in Record Sales

Christie’s New York Luxury Week’s Magnificent Jewels sale dazzled collectors, raking in an impressive $49.2 million with a remarkable 97% sell-through rate by lot. The event drew global participation, with buyers from the Americas (62%), Europe (21%), and Asia-Pacific (17%). The crown jewel? A 5.72-carat Fancy Intense Blue diamond ring that fetched $8.8 million, marking the second-highest price for a jewel in 2024.

The sale began with highlights from Mica Ertegun’s collection, where all 16 lots found buyers, realising a total of $2.6 million—nearly six times the group’s low estimate. A fierce bidding war saw a Cartier Art Deco Multi-Gem and Diamond Brooch sell for an extraordinary $1.38 million, more than 10 times its estimate.

The excitement carried over to the Jewels as Art segment, which brought in $9.2 million, headlined by a Suzanne Belperron Diamond ‘Tube’ Bracelet that sold for $945,000, more than doubling its low estimate.

The sale concluded with the Treasures of Love collection, achieving $6.7 million, led by a Van Cleef & Arpels ‘Ruban Mysterieux’ Necklace, which realised $1.35 million.

Rahul Kadakia, Christie’s International Head of Jewellery, hailed the event as a testament to the demand for exceptional provenance, noting, “Today’s results highlight the vibrant market for jewellery of the highest calibre.”

This historic sale cements Christie’s reputation as a premier destination for the world’s most discerning jewellery collectors.
