The Atlantic Ocean has long symbolised courage, ambition and the pursuit of the unknown. It catalysed the Age of Discovery, challenging explorers to cross uncharted waters and forever altering the course of history. By dissolving boundaries and connecting Europe, Africa and the Americas, the Atlantic became a conduit for cultural exchange, new ideas and the quest for freedom. In June 2025, independent GPHG Award-winning brand CIGA design honours this legacy with the Blue Planet II • Atlantic, a mechanical marvel that encapsulates the ocean’s enduring spirit.

Crafting the Legacy
At the heart of the Blue Planet II • Atlantic lies CIGA design’s proprietary Asynchronous-Follow Movement Technology. Inspired by ancient sundials, this innovation redefines timekeeping: a single compass-style hand indicates both hours and minutes, gliding across a dynamic minute disc and a fixed hour ring. Every 30 degrees of the hour gear triggers a 390 degree rotation of the minute disc, creating an intuitive dance that echoes the ebb and flow of ocean currents.

A Dial That Maps the Atlantic
Beneath a curved sapphire crystal, the dial unfolds as a three-dimensional tapestry of the Atlantic’s vast contours. CNC engraving captures the rugged Rockies, the soaring Andes, the depths of the Gulf of Mexico and the sun-warmed Mediterranean coast. Each region’s unique topography is rendered with remarkable precision, while luminous markers trace sea-lapped coastlines and glisten like moonlight on water.

Asynchronous-Follow Movement: A New Way to Tell Time
CIGA design’s award-winning calibre CD-04-E powers the Atlantic edition. This self-developed automatic movement operates at 21,600 vph, offers a 40-hour power reserve and maintains accuracy within –15/+30 seconds per day. The patented Asynchronous-Follow mechanism transforms the simple act of reading time into a contemplative voyage, harmonising mechanical ingenuity with poetic design.
Embracing the Spirit of Discovery, Connection and Freedom
- Discovery: The Atlantic challenged early mariners to venture into the unknown, driving advances in navigation and reshaping world maps.
- Connection: For centuries, its waters bridged continents, fostered global trade and wove a shared cultural tapestry.
- Freedom: The ocean’s vast expanse became a symbol of liberation and hope, inspiring countless journeys toward new beginnings.
