Waterloo Region, Ontario – A jewellery store at Conestoga Mall narrowly avoided a robbery on the evening of February 1, 2025, thanks to swift action from a security guard.
Waterloo Regional Police say six suspects arrived at the mall in a stolen grey Honda Civic from Toronto before entering the shopping centre. As they approached the jewellery store, their plans were foiled when a security guard intervened, prompting them to flee the scene.
The suspects, all masked and dressed in dark clothing, quickly escaped, but the stolen vehicle was later recovered outside of Waterloo Region. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The WRPS Robbery Team is continuing its investigation and urges anyone with information to come forward. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online.
With high-value inventory, jewellers remain prime targets for organized crime. This incident highlights the importance of strong security measures in protecting both merchandise and staff.
