Diversity Policy

Canada’s jewellery trade is not one community. It runs across languages, regions, generations and origins, and a magazine that only reflects part of it reports the industry badly.

In our reporting

We work to make the range of voices in our pages match the range of people actually running jewellery businesses in this country: French and English, independent and chain, established houses and first generation founders, and every region rather than the Toronto to Montreal corridor alone. We publish in French as well as English through Le Magazine Quebecois de la Bijouterie.

When we build a source list, a panel or a round up, we check whether it has drifted to the same familiar names, and we widen it when it has.

In hiring and contributing

We recruit staff and commission contributors on merit, and we open the search wide enough that merit can be found in more than one place. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, marital or family status, or disability. Our practices follow the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Canadian Human Rights Act.

Accessibility

We work to keep this website usable with a screen reader and a keyboard, and to caption the video we publish. Where we fall short, we would like to know: olivier@canadianjeweller.com.

Holding ourselves to it

This policy is reviewed annually by the publisher.
