A 26-year-old man has been charged after a failed robbery at the Scarborough Jewellery Exchange last week.
According to police, the man was wearing a mask and gloves upon entering the store on Eglinton Avenue West at Warden shortly before 2 p.m. After the man allegedly threatened two store employees by pointing his firearm at them and demanding jewellery, an armed security guard interfered and fired his gun, which hit the man.
The suspect attempted to flee but was stopped and taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Arthavan Rehnu-Vasanthakumar has been charged with armed robbery, using a disguise with intent and several other weapons and bail-related offences. CJ
