JVC Crime Report: Ontario leads in armed- and smash-and-grab robberies

Jewellers Vigilance Canada (JVC) notes that Ontario continues to lead the country in its number of armed robberies and smash-and-grab incidents.

Robberies have increased 21 per cent nationally from 29 in 2014 to 35 in the following year. Guns were present on 19 of the aforementioned 35 occasions, with two of these episodes involving shots fired in-store. In one of these shootings, gunfire was exchanged between the suspect and a security officer, injuring the perpetrator. On a separate occasion, a firearm was used to assault the victim.
