Swiss Professional NHL Player Nico Hischier Joins the Breitling family

The Swiss watch brand Breitling has appointed professional hockey player Nico Hischier as a new ambassador. Hischier is one of the most coveted young ice hockey players in the world, currently playing for the New Jersey Devils.

On June 23, 2017, Nico Hischier became the very first Swiss national to be drafted first overall in the NHL Entry Draft by the New Jersey Devils. One of the league’s most successful franchises around the turn of the millennium, the Devils won three Stanley Cup titles between 1995 and 2003. In his first two NHL seasons, Hischier lived-up to his Nr. 1 billing and firmly established himself as one of the franchise’s cornerstones as it builds towards the future. In 151 games to date, he has recorded 37 goals and 62 assists, playing an important role in guiding the Devils to the post-season in 201712018. Experts praise the 20-year-old’s dynamic and smart style of play.

Widely recognized as one of hockey’s most promising young players, Hischier made his professional debut at the age of 16 in Switzerland, where he split time playing both for SC Bern [National League) as well as his hometown club EHC Visp [Swiss League). In 2016, he moved to North America with the hopes of furthering his hockey career. After a stellar campaign for the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Hischier was awarded Canadian Hockey League rookie of the year, the Michael Bossy Trophy as the best professional prospect, and the Michel Bergeron Trophy as offensive rookie of the year. That same season, he also opened some eyes at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship in Montreal when he scored seven points [four goals, three assists) in five games for Switzerland, including both Swiss goals in a 3-2 loss against the United States in the quarterfinal round. More recently, Hischier represented Switzerland at the 2019 IIHF World Championship, scoring at least one point in six of the team’s eight games. Hischier would end the tournament with nine points, leading team Switzerland in scoring.
