5,774 Suppliers, 57 Countries, One Search: Inside the Canadian Jeweller Buyer’s Guide

From Hong Kong gem houses to Italian chain makers and 654 Canadian wholesalers, every supplier a store needs now sits in one search

The Canadian Jeweller Buyer’s Guide is now the most complete jewellery supplier directory in the trade. It lists 5,774 wholesalers, manufacturers and service partners in 57 countries, across 25 categories, with a map of 52,961 jewellery stores and a marketplace for verified retailers.

Most stores never do this sum. Picture a store that buys $400,000 of inventory a year. If it pays 5 per cent too much out of habit, $20,000 of margin is gone before the first customer walks in. One late delivery in December and the bill grows.

It is eleven at night, and the showcase still has a gap where the holiday bridal stock should be. One browser tab holds a supplier who stopped answering in August. Another holds a trade fair catalogue from last spring. A third shows a search engine returning the same three names it returned last year.

Most independent jewellers in Canada have sat through that night, usually more than once.

Canadian Jeweller has opened the Buyer’s Guide. In my view, it is the most complete sourcing tool our industry has ever had. It puts 5,774 suppliers from 57 countries in one place. You can sort and search every one of them the way a store actually buys.

What is in the Canadian Jeweller jewellery supplier directory?

The core is a supplier directory covering 25 categories. Next to it sit a locator for jewellery stores and a marketplace open only to the trade.

Fine jewellery alone accounts for 4,151 suppliers, followed by 1,404 gemstone houses and 1,310 diamond suppliers. But the useful surprises sit further down the list, in findings, mountings, displays and packaging.

Source: Canadian Jeweller Buyer’s Guide, October 2026. A supplier can appear in more than one category.

So a store that needs a bezel setting and a gift box in the same week can find both in the same place.

Which countries lead the jewellery supplier directory?

Hong Kong has the most listings, with 1,204 suppliers. The United States follows with 813 and Italy with 749.

Canada is fourth with 654 domestic suppliers. That puts it ahead of China, Japan, Thailand, India, the United Kingdom and Turkey.

For a jeweller in Halifax or Kelowna, that means starting with Canadian suppliers. Then, if the price or the lead time is wrong, the rest of the world is one filter away.

How does the guide save a store time before December?

Take a store in Saskatoon preparing for the holidays. The owner needs 14K findings, a lab grown diamond supplier for studs and new gift packaging.

Until now, that meant three searches, a dozen emails and a week of waiting. In the Buyer’s Guide, the owner filters by category and country and puts three suppliers side by side. The shortlist gets saved with private notes, and one quote request goes to all of them at once.

When the week is too busy even for that, there is a sourcing request service. The jeweller describes what is needed once, and the Canadian Jeweller team finds suppliers that fit the category, region and timeline.

Why is the marketplace trade only?

Once a wholesale price list leaks onto the open web, customers walk in with screenshots. The conversation at the counter then shifts from design to discount. The markup on a piece pays for the showcase, the bench, the insurance and the staff, and a screenshot shows none of that.

Suppliers pay for it too. A wholesaler whose prices circulate publicly invites channel conflict, and retailers quietly drop lines they cannot defend at the counter. That is why the marketplace stays closed to the public. Suppliers publish catalogues for verified retailers, and wholesale pricing appears only to verified retail accounts. So a supplier can show its full range without undercutting the stores that sell it.

One inquiry can cover several suppliers, and the guide splits it into separate requests automatically. Minimums, lead times and shipping regions appear before anything is ordered. For a store importing from Hong Kong or Italy, that information decides whether stock lands in November or in January. Wholesale ordering opens to verified buyers in the next phase.

How do wholesalers use the jewellery supplier directory?

Wholesalers get just as much out of it. The retailer locator maps 52,961 jewellery stores in 31 countries, including 3,622 in Canada. Each store listing also shows the address, phone number, website and opening hours.

A wholesaler planning a sales trip across Ontario can map the whole territory with it. A designer in Montréal can use it to find the right stockist. Wholesalers can also list their company and receive inquiries from verified retailers. Their category pages are written for search engines and AI answers, the same way our coverage of AI search for jewellers recommends.

Listings also stay current. Every supplier can update its profile at any time through Update your listing. A new phone number or a new collection goes live right away, with no wait for the next edition. Suppliers can also add features to their profile as the business grows, including a catalogue in the trade only marketplace.

How are suppliers verified?

The Canadian Jeweller editorial team checks business details before a verified badge appears in the jewellery supplier directory. Listings come from supplier applications and public sources such as trade fair catalogues. The team then reviews them on a rolling basis. Any supplier can also request a correction directly.

It is the same check this magazine has applied to its own pages since 1879.

Why could no printed magazine ever hold this guide?

Try printing it. One line for every supplier and store comes to more than 58,000 entries. At 60 listings a page, that is close to 1,000 pages. And the book would start going out of date the day the press stopped, because phone numbers change and new stores open in places like Moncton every season.

We know, because we have done this on paper before. The magazine printed its own buyer’s guides in 2020 and 2021, and stores kept them near the counter. The online guide does the same job without a page count, and it fits in a phone.

Canadian Jeweller has published since 1879. It has covered the trade through two world wars, the arrival of television and the internet, and now AI search. A magazine lasts 147 years only by changing with its readers, and often a step ahead of them. The Buyer’s Guide is the newest example of that habit.

Why did Canadian Jeweller build it?

Most of a store’s margin is decided at the buying stage, long before a customer sees the piece. The right supplier usually means a better price and a faster delivery. The familiar one, chosen out of habit, often costs more on both.

Since 1879, the magazine’s job has been to connect the people who make jewellery with the people who sell it. The Buyer’s Guide now does that job every day, on any screen. It also works alongside the Time & Shine Jewellery Trade Show, where relationships that begin in the guide become handshakes and written orders.

What to do this week

  • Search the one category your store struggled to source this year.
  • Save three suppliers and send them a single quote request.
  • Wholesalers: select List your company and claim your profile before the holiday buying window closes.
