In a bout of Canadian pride, Birks Group has partnered with Stornoway Diamond Corporation to sell stones from its Renard mine in Quebec.
Last week, Birks displayed the mine’s first 200 polished diamonds at its Montreal flagship store. In the coming weeks, these stones will make their rounds to the Canadian jeweller’s Laval, Ste Foy, and Ottawa locations.
The Quebecois diamonds range from 0.18 carats to 10.01 carats in size, and are available loose or mounted. Each stone comes with certificate of authenticity and a unique serial number. What’s more, they are each engraved with a microscopic maple leaf, as well as with Quebec’s fleur de lis symbol.
“We’re very proud to unveil the first certified diamonds from a mine in Quebec,” said Birks CEO Jean-Christophe Bedos. “As a Canadian leader in the jewellery market, we are convinced they will appeal to our customers, who are increasingly interested in knowing the provenance and traceability of precious stones.”
Headquartered in Montreal, Birks offers exclusively Canadian diamonds for its engagement rings. Moreover, its domestically-sourced diamonds are traceable from the mine to the finished product. In 2010, Birks was the first jeweller to offer diamonds from De Beers’ Victor mine in Ontario.
