Corporate Knights Magazine released a list of the top ranked companies as part of the 2014 Best 50 Corporate Citizens in Canada. The rankings were announced at a gala dinner in Toronto on June 4. The thirteen-year-old award, considered one of the most recognized corporate sustainability ranking in the country, looks for sustainability reporting, renewable energy financing and environmental operational efficiencies. Some of the names that made the list were Tim Hortons, Toronto-Dominion Bank, Enbridge, Canada Post, Rogers Communications, Westjet Airlines, TELUS, TransCanada, Bank of Montreal, Lowblaw Companies and Canadian Tire.
The name that took the top spot with a score of 71.63 per cent was Mountain Equipment Co-op, a sporting equipment and apparel company. Mountain Equipment Co-op came at the top with categories such as carbon productivity, waste productivity and CEO-average employee pay.
Despite including many different sectors, companies are only ranked against others within the same industry until the final step of the scoring process. CJ
