Gold Rush exhibit in B.C. to showcase in China

The Royal B.C. Museum will showcase a Gold Rush exhibit highlighting Chinese immigrants in Canada and their role in the gold rushes of the 1800s. The exhibition, launched in Victoria, B.C. on May 13 of next year, will run until October 31.

Graphic panels from the exhibition will also be featured in the Guangdong Museum of Chinese Nationals Residing Abroad in Guangzhou, China, where a lot of Chinese immigrants in Canada have come from. The exhibit will also be featured at the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, Quebec, from March 24 of 2016 to January 15, 2017. Certain parts of the exhibition regarding First Nations may also be shown in Bogota, Columbia.

In the museum’s description of the exhibition, the exhibit is said to explore “how everything changed with the gold rushes of the late 1800s, as class and racial barriers were broken down and people seized the extraordinary opportunities that glittered before them.” CJ
