Cutting-edge skills in Diamond Testing with Industry Expert Branko Deljanin

This fall, from October 3-9, 2024, Indian gemmologists and jewellers will have a unique opportunity to enhance their expertise in lab-grown diamond identification through a series of workshops led by one of the most distinguished figures in the field. Branko Deljanin, President of the Canadian Gemmological Laboratory (CGL), renowned for his expertise and groundbreaking research in gemmology, will be hosting practical workshops in Mumbai and Hyderabad, India.

In partnership with HRD and Basil Labs, the event promises to equip participants with the latest tools and knowledge to differentiate between natural and synthetic diamonds, including HPHT-grown and CVD-grown varieties. The Diamond Research Center (DRC) in Surat will further support the workshops by providing two of their most advanced diamond screening instruments.

Workshop Goals:

Master the specialist skills required for testing both natural and synthetic diamonds.
Learn the strengths and limitations of various portable testing instruments available on the market today.
Harness fluorescence as a key screening technique for identifying lab-grown diamonds.
Use Cross-Polarised Filters to observe birefringence and identify natural, HPHT-grown, and CVD-grown diamonds.
Explore portable spectrometers as tools for screening diamonds, while understanding the limitations of each technique.
Gain proficiency in the final identification of natural and synthetic diamonds using a combination of affordable, advanced instruments.
The workshops feature over 100 unique diamond samples collected over 25 years, covering the full spectrum of characteristics needed to distinguish natural from synthetic diamonds.

Participants will also learn the final identification techniques necessary for distinguishing between natural and synthetic diamonds, even when time is limited. This hands-on, practical approach ensures that attendees walk away with real-world skills that can be applied immediately in their businesses.
