Stornoway Diamond Corporation has produced 1 million carats at its Renard mine since the deposit’s opening in October.
“[This] news represents another important milestone in our production ramp-up at Renard,” says Matt Manson, CEO of Stornoway’s CEO. “The 1 million-carat threshold comes, coincidentally, at the same time that the first polished diamonds from the mine have become available for sale in Montreal.”
According to the company’s forecasts, the Quebec diamond mine, will yield 1.8 million carats of rough per year over the first decade of mining. The project’s first polished goods are now on display at the Montreal flagship store of retailer Birks Group, which plans to sell the stones as Canadian-branded diamonds.
