Shopify for Jewellers: Is Your Store on the AI Shortlist?

Before a customer ever walks into your store, they may have already decided which jewellers are worth visiting. Increasingly, AI is helping them make that decision.

Shopify for jewellers arrives in Toronto on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 11 a.m. Shopify and Quantum Lead will open the Time & Shine Jewellery Trade Show with a one hour session on AI recommendations, unified store systems and repair tracking, and what these changes mean for independent jewellers.

An independent jeweller does not often get an hour of Shopify’s attention. The company started in Ottawa in 2006 and now serves millions of merchants in more than 175 countries.

Picture a man who has been thinking about a ring for three weeks. Last night, somewhere around eleven, he finally asked for help. He did not call his sister, and he did not search the way he would have two years ago. He typed a question into an AI assistant: where should I buy an engagement ring in Toronto?

It gave him three names, with a tidy reason beside each. He saved them and went to bed. On Saturday, he will visit two.

Was yours one of the three? It takes about twenty seconds to find out. Ask the same question using your own city, then come back to this page.

How many customers already shop this way?

More than you would guess, and they tend to be the good ones. In June 2026, Bain & Company and Comité Colbert published a study of luxury buyers. Among the top tier, 82% used AI during their most recent purchase.

Fine jewellery is still sold across a counter, so the in person number is the one to watch. Of the buyers who purchased in a boutique, 47% had consulted AI before they walked in. Once people try it, they keep going: 97% say they will do so again. These figures are international. Comparable Canadian data is not yet available.

The trouble with losing a sale this way is that it makes no noise. Nobody walks out. Nobody phones. Saturday just feels a little thin, and you blame the weather.

What does Shopify plan to show you?

The reassuring part is that none of this is mysterious. The software reads your website looking for facts it can repeat with confidence, and it skips the stores that give it nothing to work with.

So the session turns into a set of plain questions. Does each product page state the metal, the stone, the carat weight and the ring size? Is the stock shown online the stock in the case? Is there a page that explains how to choose a diamond or how to measure a finger at home? Do your reviews and your press coverage tell the same story?

It is not glamorous work. Still, anyone who knows the inventory can do it, and they can start on Monday.

Shopify will also demonstrate two tools of its own. Sidekick answers a merchant’s data questions and drafts images and copy. The Knowledge Base app lets a retailer shape what shopping chats say about the business.

What is it worth to run the counter and the website as one?

Ask any owner with two systems about inventory day. The counter runs on one system and the website on another, so somebody counts everything twice. Meanwhile, a client who bought online last spring is a stranger in the showroom in the fall.

Shopify commissioned a study of retailers who moved both onto one platform. It reported sales up 8.9% a year on average. For a jeweller doing $1.2 million, that is roughly $106,800. Point of sale costs came out 22% better.

Shopify paid for that research, so treat it the way you would treat a supplier’s sell through figures: with interest and a raised eyebrow. Then bring your own numbers on Sunday and ask how the claim holds up at your size.

Why does the repair drawer matter so much?

Every jeweller knows the envelope. It has a name, a phone number and a few lines of handwriting, and it lives in a drawer with forty others. The deposit is written somewhere else. So is the date you promised.

That envelope deserves better because a repair is the one sale that typically leads to a second visit. The client has to return for the piece. When the date slips, the reunion starts with an apology.

Quantum Lead built an application called Noble to address this. It brings repairs, custom orders and deposits into Shopify POS. Say a ring arrives with a missing stone. The associate logs the work, the price, a few photos and a note that the engraving is sentimental. Whoever is behind the counter on pickup day sees all of it.

How do you get a seat?

Register at timeandshineexpo.com and arrive a few minutes early. Quantum Lead is also exhibiting, so you can take your own situation to the team afterward. After that, the floor is yours, with suppliers ready to write holiday orders.

And if the assistant did put you on its list last night, come anyway. You will want to know how to stay there.
