This year has the highest percentage of consumers that wish for jewellery for Christmas since 2006, according to a National Retail Federation (NRF) survey. NRF sees it as a sign that consumers are less concerned about prices this year, especially for high quality and luxury items. There has been a 4.1 per cent rise in holiday sales, with 56 per cent of shoppers searching for Christmas gifts online.
“Throughout the recession, price has been paramount, no question about that,” NRF senior director Kathy Grannis told JCK Online in a media conference call. “But consumers are getting a little weary, a little tired of that… We are looking at a shopper who is looking at price, but who also wants value.” CJ
