MING 37.09 Bluefin

In a groundbreaking achievement, independent watchmaker MING has been honoured with the Sports Watch Prize at the prestigious 2024 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) for its standout model, the 37.09 Bluefin dive watch. This marks the brand’s second recognition at the GPHG, following its Horological Revelation Prize in 2019, cementing its place as a rising star in the horology world.

The award-winning Bluefin is no ordinary dive watch—it’s a bold statement of innovation and design. Featuring a rotating luminous sapphire dial instead of the traditional dive bezel, the Bluefin seamlessly merges modern aesthetics with advanced functionality. Crafted with a pressure-balanced case capable of withstanding depths of up to 600 metres, the Bluefin is compact yet robust, measuring 38mm in diameter and 12.8mm in thickness. A display back allows enthusiasts a glimpse into the mechanical artistry within—a feature rarely seen in professional-grade dive watches.

Ming Thein, Founder and Chief Creative, shared his thoughts on the win:

“The Bluefin continues the quest for innovation that has defined us since our inception in 2017. From sapphire mosaics to white-emission luminous materials, and even the world’s lightest mechanical watches, we’ve consistently pushed boundaries. Every MING timepiece is a collaborative effort of our team and expert partners, and we are immensely proud to be recognised by the GPHG.”

The 37.09 Bluefin isn’t just about technical prowess; it’s a reimagining of what a dive watch can be. The luminous sapphire dial enhances underwater legibility, while the pressure-balanced case ensures durability under extreme conditions. These features make the Bluefin a true testament to MING’s philosophy of merging functionality with avant-garde design.

The GPHG jury, known for its discerning standards, praised MING for challenging conventional notions of sports watches while ensuring that every element adheres to professional diving requirements. This recognition adds another feather to the cap of a brand that has consistently punched above its weight since its debut.

A Journey of Innovation

MING’s journey in horology began in 2017, and in just seven years, the brand has made waves with its distinct aesthetic and groundbreaking innovations. The brand’s universal bracelets and sapphire mosaics are just a few examples of how MING consistently delivers on its promise to offer something different yet enduringly functional.

As Thein noted, this achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the support of collectors, partners, and the GPHG Academy. He extended heartfelt thanks to everyone who believed in the brand’s vision, paving the way for this monumental success.

Looking Ahead

With the Sports Watch Prize firmly in hand, MING is poised for more ambitious endeavours. The Bluefin serves as a benchmark, not only for what MING can achieve but also for how the industry can think differently about traditional categories.
