New data from Canada Post suggests that consumers are more eager to spend their money on e-commerce than ever before.
A study conducted by the postal service has found that about 76 per cent of Canadian households shopped online last year. Of that percentage, about a quarter have become “frequent” shoppers, buying items off the Internet four to 10 times per year.
“Consumers are dipping their toes into e-commerce, testing the waters,” says Danielle Doiron, director of parcels and e-commerce market development at Canada Post. “(They’re) becoming very quickly converted.”
Dorion, who presented the study’s findings at Toronto’s Etail Canada retail conference on Tuesday, adds that the “type of products” that consumers are purchasing online is also “expanding”. This creates the opportunity for all retailers to develop their methods of Internet business in order to cater to the growing e-commerce market. CJ
