Last week, a man armed with a gun and hammer robbed a Birks Jewellers in Quebec’s Carrefour Laval shopping centre. Franco Di Genova, a constable with the Laval Police, says the suspect entered the store, smashed eight display cases and ran off with an undisclosed amount of jewellery and watches.

Di Genova calls the event a “smash and grab” robbery.

An employee at a nearby store says that she closed and locked the doors after two holiday shoppers said they’d heard shots. However, Di Genova adds that no shots were fired—the sound they heard was the shattering of the glass display cases at Birks.

The investigation is still ongoing. CJ
