Founded in 1958 by Dean S. M. Field, the Canadian Gemmological Association is a professional organization that has set the standard for excellence in the science and study of gemmology in Canada.

CGA’s courses provide training for gem and jewellery industry professionals and hobbyists, alike. The professional diploma program is recognized worldwide and was derived from the renowned British FGA courses. The professional courses are offered via several modes of study and successful students from each stream may be recognized and admitted as FCGmA.

The association represents its members in liaison with government in developing guidelines for the sale and marketing of diamonds, coloured gemstones and pearls, and in the establishment of guidelines for gem and jewellery appraising in Canada.
