The Retail Council of Canada (RCC) and the Canadian Jewellers Association (CJA) have launched the first-ever retail certification program for jewellery store managers and staff. The program, called the Certified Jewellery Retail Professional Program (CJRP), reiterates skills and knowledge that are unique to the Canadian jewellery industry landscape.
The self-directed online course covers topics and skills including protection and operations, law and legislation, succession planning and leadership, sales, marketing and more. Certification will require that candidates pass an exam, complete a performance interview and have a full year of on-the-job experience in the trade.
CJRP will be offered through RCC’s education division, the Canadian Retail Institute.
“We’re thrilled to empower jewellers with this specially designed program that will assist them and their staff in becoming successful retail professionals,” says Diane J. Brisebois, president and CEO of Retail Council of Canada.
“We know other countries are also looking to create similar programs and we are proud to be the first to address the specific issues of jewellers’ retail training needs,” adds Stephen Cole, a CJA Board Member.
