The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), the leading global authority on sustainability standards for the jewellery and watch industry, has announced that Melanie Grant will be stepping down from her role as Executive Director after two years at the helm. However, she will continue to support the organization as a consultant while John Hall takes over as Interim Executive Director during the search for a permanent replacement.
Hall, who has been with the RJC since its inception in 2005, brings deep industry experience to the role, ensuring stability and continuity as the organization moves forward.
Grant, a highly respected writer and curator, joined the RJC with more than 20 years of experience across some of the jewellery and watch industry’s most influential media platforms. During her tenure, she played a key role in strengthening the RJC’s global presence, overseeing a rise in membership to 2,000, leading a successful review of the Code of Practices (COP) and Chain of Custody (COC), and introducing the much-anticipated Lab-Grown Materials Standard.
“After an incredible two years at the RJC, working with the team and welcoming members from new regions, I feel it’s time to pass the baton to someone who will lead the organization into its next chapter. This year marks our 20th anniversary, and reaching 2,000 members is a significant milestone. I’ve learned so much from this experience and am truly grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such an important institution.” – Melanie Grant
Dave Meleski, President & CEO, expressed both appreciation and regret at Grant’s departure:
“It is with mixed emotions that we announce Melanie’s transition from her role at the RJC. While we are sorry to see her step down, we are incredibly grateful for her leadership over the past two years. She has transformed the organization into a stronger, more forward-thinking entity. Her commitment to ensuring a smooth transition will greatly benefit the RJC as we move forward. It has been a pleasure working alongside her in my role as Chair of the Board.”
With Hall stepping in as interim leader, the RJC remains focused on its mission of advancing responsible business practices across the jewellery and watch industry worldwide.
